Peanut Chutney

Here is my favorite and regular chutney recipe which can be served as a great combination with Idli/Dosa.

Soft Idli
Ingredients:

Roasted and peeled peanuts – 1 cup
roasted green chilli-3 or 4 (adjust as per your spiciness)
small lemon sized tamarind (soaked in warm water for 10 mts)
Crushed garlic flakes -2
salt to taste
1 cup water (adjust as per chutney consistency)
Coriander leaves-1 tbsp (Optional but i love to add coriander leaves)
Bengalgram Dal (Putnalu/Manchi Pappulu)-2 tbsp (Optional)
grated coconut -1 tsp (Optional)

For popu/tadka/seasoning:

Mustard seeds, cumin seeds,Split black gram dal (all together) -1/4 tsp
De-seeded dry red chillis -2
Curry leaves-1 spring
Oil-1 tsp
Crushed Garlic Flakes – 1 or 2 (Optional)

Method:

Grind all the above ingredients (Use only half cup water) except the ingredients for popu/tadka . Then add remaining water and grind it to paste (do not over grind it).

Heat oil in a pan for seasoning. Once hot, add the Mustard seeds, cumin seeds,Split black gram dal, and when they splutter, add the garlic, curry leaves and turn off heat. Pour over chutney and serve with idlis or dosas.
